How Do I Perform Maintenance On My Copier?
These Steps Can Be Used As A Guide.
1 : Make Copies Or Proof Prints: This allows us to check the copy/print quality and hear the set of gears to locate defects or abnormal sounds.
2 : Remove And Check All Cassette Trays, Duplex Units, And Sorters: These should be cleaned and tested for broken media or actuators that may cause the paper not to move or be separated or clogged.
3 ; Open The Copier/Printer And Remove All The Doors And Covers: This allows us to inspect the entire interior of the machine and its cartridges to look for obvious or visible defects.
4: Inspect And Clean All Paper Feeder Rollers: All these rollers can be “smooth” and wear with use. Replacing the worn feeder rollers returns to normal conditions that allow the paper to be fed correctly.
5 : Inspect And Clean The Paper Separation Unit: This area allows the paper to be picked up, one at a time. The technician should clean this area and / or change the worn elements if necessary.
6 ; Inspect And Clean The Registration Unit: This Unit allows the paper to be “properly aligned” with the image, as it enters the printing area. The technician cleans or changes the roller and / or the registration solenoid for proper operation.
7 : Inspect And Clean The Image Transfer Unit: This Unit can attract and adhere to toner. The technician should clean it, restoring proper loading and copying/printing quality.
8 : Inspect And Clean The Heat Unit: This Unit reaches very high temperatures while the toner is “fused” into the copy paper. The technician must disassemble, clean, and / or change the worn elements that he observes: heat, pressure, oil rollers, thermistors, etc.
9 : Inspect And Clean The Ozone Filters Of The Machine: Analog copiers produce ozone and have filters that must be checked and cleaned. The digital ones do not provide much ozone, but they require that their static filters be cleaned so that the air circulates properly.
10 ; Inspect And Clean The Fans: Toner, paper dust, earth and ozone clog or spoil the fans. A good cleaning will keep the fans running for a long time.
11 ; Inspect And Tighten The Screws And Check The Ground Wires: Some screws may be loose inside the machine and could fall inside the Cylinder or development unit or the gears, causing severe damage.
12 : Lubricate The Machine With High-Temperature Grease: Years of service and use can cause the gears to dry out. The technician must lubricate all the gears necessary to increase its useful life.
13 : Vacuum Or Blow The Entire Machine With A Vacuum Cleaner Or Compressor: Dust and dirt, especially toner, can accumulate inside the copier/printer. The technician should suck or blow the machine completely, including the electronic cards, ensuring a longer life of the internal components.
14 : Check And Clean The Path From The Optics To The Cylinder And The Laser Unit: Some machines have one or several mirrors in the optical path of the laser to direct the laser light beam to form the image in the drum of the machine. The technician must clean the laser unit and the optical Unit, including the CCD to achieve optimum image quality.
15 : Reassemble And Replace All Covers, Covers And Cassette Trays And Clean The Entire External Cabinet: After reassembling the machine, the technician must take copies or proof prints to verify or adjust the optimum copy/print quality and finally clean the exterior cabinets to give the machine a “new” appearance.
